Translate the labels into deliverables
Ask the provider to name the pages, questions, technical checks, and reporting that are included. SEO, AEO, and GEO can describe overlapping work. A new label does not itself create a new customer need.
A useful scope might include checking your main service pages, correcting inconsistent business information, drafting a reviewed FAQ, and observing a defined question panel.
Look for missing responsibilities
Who verifies factual claims? Who approves publishing? Who maintains opening hours and service changes? Who owns the work after the engagement? A proposal can sound sophisticated while leaving these essential responsibilities undefined.
Ask what happens when results do not improve. The answer should include investigation and adjustment, not an assertion that you simply need more automated content.
Choose an initial problem you can inspect
Pick one service where discovery or understanding seems weak. Establish a baseline, inspect the public information, and agree on a limited set of changes. This creates something concrete to evaluate before committing to a large publishing program.
Reject promises of guaranteed recommendations. Your provider can control the quality and execution of the work, but not the decisions of independent platforms.
Questions worth asking
Is AEO a replacement for SEO?
Treat it as a lens on answer-oriented discovery, not permission to neglect accessible pages, useful content, and ordinary search fundamentals.
